The Filipino community in Austria led by the Kapunongan sa mga Bisaya sa Austria (KBA) and Austrian devotees of the Sto. Niño came in droves on 16 January 2011 at the Maria vom Berge Karmel Church in Stefan Fadinger Platz 1, A-1100, Vienna, to pay homage to the Sto. Niño and to celebrate the Sinulog Festival .

The festival highlighted a series of dances featuring the unique dancing technique – forward and backward movements in remembrance of the Filipinos’ pagan past and their recognition of Christianity.

In her message during the festival, H.E. Ambassador Lourdes O. Yparraguirre, Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, invited the Filipinos in Austria to reflect on the powerful symbolism of this time-honoured Filipino tradition. She also expressed that the annual celebration of Sinulog Festival in Vienna could inspire the Filipino community to become advocates for closer cultural understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Austria and that it could also drive the Filipino community to enliven their faith with positive action and a renewed sense of patriotism.
